Business English for Beginner
In 2020, I was taking an online course about Business English on a platform. I think the course was quite easy to understand, so I took notes on my phone and I think it would be good to post it in my blog. So I can review this every time by visiting my blog.
Here's the summary of the course:
1. How to agree with people:
- Good. I think we are all agreed now.
- Yes. I agree with what you are saying
- I agree totally
- I agree with [name]. I think this is a good idea.
- You're quite right. We hadn't considered that.
- That's a good point.
- Yes, we’re happy with this for now.
2. How to disagree with people:
- For us it’s a little different/difficult. Please let me explain.
- Unfortunately, this will not be possible. Please can I explain.
- This timescale is very difficult for us. We will need more time to complete this project/action. Can we please discuss this?
- I’m sorry but this doesn’t work for us/me
- Can we please discuss an alternative solution?
- In fact, the situation is a little difficult/different – I would like to explain our position.
- I understand what you're saying, but ...
- I'm afraid that's out of the question.
3. Negotiating:
- This will be an issue for us. Can we discuss some alternatives?
- I understand. But our bottom line is very clear.
- My main concern at this stage is ...
- The main point that we’d like to emphasize is that…
- I would like to emphasize that ...
- We would like to propose
- We need to keep in mind that ...
- Let me repeat that it is ...
- We'd like to suggest a proposal that will hopefully benefit both sides.
- What about if we ...?
- I think we can accept that ...
4. Arranging a future meeting:
- Are you available to talk about this next Tuesday?
- When are you free to discuss this again?
- Let’s talk again next week for an update
- Would you be available for an update next Monday?
- What time is good for you?
