From Instant Coffee to Fresh Coffee to Business

First of all, I do really like coffee as much as I like drinking water every day. I think I can't start a day without a cup of coffee.

So, since I was in college, my roommate introduced me to instant coffee like Good Day or Torabika (local brand). Just about sachet coffee because in my era was not so many cafes in the campus area and I think they have existed but not getting popularity as much as now, like today, we can see lots of cafes in every place.

At that time, I enjoyed drinking sweet coffee. Till one day, the same friend influenced me to try fresh coffee at a store in Jakarta city. I remember that I ordered Dolce Latte, but I didn't like it because I thought it was bitter. So I tried another one - I forgot the name - and I liked it because the taste was both bitter and sweet; of course, the sweet still dominated.

The more I get coffee every day, the more I like bitterness.

In the 2nd year I like coffee, my other friend asked me to get coffee from the most popular cafe in my country - you know who - they are everywhere.

Then, I went there and tried Dolce Latte with double shot espresso and tall size. So addicted, am I?

Day by day, I do love coffee, tasted a lot of coffee in various places and cafes. My level just stepped up and I had felt like I wanted to try this and that and so on.

And nowadays, coffee gets so many fans, they are not just old people and men but also young men and women like teenagers, or we can call them "Millennial" or "Gen Z" do like coffee. Many cafes are launched today; many people see this trend as a business. We can see them in different styles.

So do we. I and friends also have a business in this area. We sell coffee, just started in 2020. Yeah, we have launched it in pandemic situations. We knew that since the pandemic came so many businesses were getting worse, but it didn't make us give up on trying this kind of business because we really like coffee.

I could say that I'm lucky to have a team who is creative, cooperative, and smart! They have more information about coffee than I do. Before we launched, one person on my team struggled to find a formula for making the best Cold Brew in town (can we say that? 😇 Fyi, at that time, not many cafes had that menu). That experiment took 3 months, we just trial and error, and when we got the stuck idea then we went to a cafe and compared tastes.

Until we are confident to launch our product in July 2020. That was amazing. We haven't had a proper place to do production; we just had the positive energy to start a business and also the idea. That was our modal.

To be continued..
